Measurement and Installation Instructions
Your hand-painted wall paper order will be manufactured at one time to ensure the colors, textures and design elements match. For that reason, please double check your measurements.
When measuring for your hand-painted wall coverings, measure the length and height of each wall in a room. Multiply the length by height to obtain square footage. Then, measure any doors and windows the same way and subtract their square footage from your calculations. After you have your measurements, choose the type of application you want from the application pages. The final step is to add for contingencies (waste). The percentage to add will depend on the way you intend to apply the paper, i.e., with torn edges, random patterns or traditional.
Step One
For a room that is 20 feet long and 10 feet wide with 10 foot ceilings.
There will be two walls 20’ wide by 10’ high or 200 square feet each.
And two walls 10’ wide by 10’ high or 100 square feet each.
2 walls at 200 sq. ft. = 400 sq. ft.
2 walls at 100 sq. ft. = 200 sq. ft.
Total 600 sq. ft.
(To measure a ceiling for wall paper, multiply the length of room by width.)
Step Two
There is one door 8 ft by 3 ft. (subtract 24 sq. ft.) and you have your measurement for the room: 576 sq. ft.
Step Three
You have chosen a traditional application, so add 10 percent for contingencies (waste):
576 sq. ft. + 58 sq. ft. = 634 sq. ft.
Step Four
Divide total square feet by 30 to obtain the number of rolls:
634 sq. ft. divided by 30 (sq. ft. per roll) = 21.33 or 22 rolls
(With wall papers, always round up.) This is how many rolls you will need.
Step Five
Adding for Contingencies (Waste)
Once you notify us of your preferred application, Cast Stone Elements will produce your wall papers in the appropriate panel sizes with torn or cut edges. Please use the following calculations to add for contingencies. For panels with straight edges add 10 percent to the square footage. For panels with torn edges add 20 percent, and for panels with random shapes add 30 percent.
Once you have chosen an application design, choose the size of your panels.
All designs can be produced in panels with straight or torn edges in the following dimensions:

Panels with torn edges will be slightly smaller than the previously listed dimensions unless a customized dimension is requested and a price adjustment is made. Panels of randomly torn shapes will be approximately:

18”, 24”, and 36” by any length up to 20 ft.
